Congress attempts to shut down Ethics Committee: The People Rage

In a Republican only meeting, Representatives of the House proposed a plan to gut funding and effectively shut down the independent ethics committee.

This caused a huge outcry once it was picked up by national and conventional media. Every left-wing group in the country started calling their Representatives. It was a massive out pouring of enraged citizens.

The news likes to credit Drumpf with halting this ostentatious Republican behavior. But it was the people, the news, getting the world out.

“I can tell you the calls we’ve gotten in my district office and here in Washington surprised me, meaning the numbers of calls. People are just sick and tired,” Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-N.C.) said of the simmering outrage over the proposed change. “People are just losing confidence in the lack of ethics and honesty in Washington.”

In a statement, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said, “Republicans should remember the strength of public outrage they faced in the space of 12 hours as they scheme to do lasting damage to the health and economic security of millions and millions of hard-working families.”

These were the Republicans that wanted to eliminate the ethics over sight:

Rep. Peter King (R-NY)
Rep. Lou Barletta (R-PA)
Rep. Steve King (R-IA)
Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA)
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) – Said he didn’t want to support it but was unable to sway his own party members
